Gulab Jamun

Easy to make, yummy to eat.
Makes 50 pieces

Ingredients

  • 1 cup self raising flour
  • 4 cups powder milk
  • 2 tsp ghee


  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • fresh milk at room temperature


  • 9 cups water
  • 1kg brown sugar/molasses
  • 30 crushed whole cardomoms (use both the seeds and shell)


  • 1 kg tin of ghee

Method

1. Put the following in a big bowl:
1 cup self raising flour
4 cups powder milk (use adult version....don't use baby formula, ok...[img]http://forums.waheguroo.com/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.png[/img])
2 tsp ghee

2. For binding the above:
2 tbsp yogurt (stick to 2 tbsp max because if you use more, the gulabs may taste too sourish if the yogurt is sour)
fresh milk at room temperature (as much as needed for mixing the dough to right consistency)

3. Syrup
9 cups water
1kg brown sugar/molasses
30 crushed whole cardomoms (use both the seeds and shell)

4. Fry in ghee (1 kg tin of ghee) over medium low fire.
Fry in 2 batches of 25 peices each in big pan

5. Keep balls in plate for 5 mins after frying and then put them into the warm syrup (not too cold, not boiling)
